課程概述

This course is designed to provide a foundation in nursing research for use in clinical practice and the research settings. Basic concepts and principles of research methodology and process are covered in the lecture component. Emphasis is given on the systematic examination and application of the research process. The concept of evidenced-based practice and its application to nursing is stressed and critically examined. 

課程目標
In meeting the objectives of this course, the student will be able to:
1.Generate research questions from theory and practice
2.Demonstrate knowledge of the research process
3.Use knowledge of research methodology to analyze and/or design studies pertinent to practice
4.Compare and contrast quantitative and qualitative research approaches
5.Apply principles of ethical and legal issues involved in conducting research and utilizing research findings
6.Prepare and write a preliminary research proposal for thesis
 
課程要求
★Classroom Participation and Presentation
1. Students are expected to fully participate in class discussions and CEIBA platforms.
2. For class presentation, students are asked to:
(1) Sign up your interested topic in a group of 2-3 persons.
(2) Present the topic for 90 minutes (including overview, critical analysis of important issues, relative strength and weakness of each approach, and raising questions to stimulate class discussion) and lead discussion for another 1 hour.
(3) Collect raised questions prior to the presentation and reflects that content in the class presentation.
(4) Prepare handouts and distribute to class members at the time of your presentation.
(5) Students are REQUIRED to discuss the contents of the presentations with faculty prior to their scheduled presentations.

★ CEIBA question and exchange
1. Starting from March 5th 2011, students are asked to log on CEIBA web system weekly to submit and post at least one question regarding the reading assignment by midnight, Saturday.
2. Any feedbacks or idea exchanges on the CEIBA platform are highly encouraged.

★Research Proposal Presentation
1. All student are required to present your research proposal at the end of semester. For each student, 15 minutes presentation plus 10 minutes discussion time is allocated. Given the time strain, adherent to the time limitation will be strictly enforced.
2. To facilitate the flow of presentation, background and significance, research questions/specific aims, method and design, data analysis, and anticipated study progression are suggested to be included as the subtitles of presentation.

★Written Research Proposal
1. Due 12 Noon, June 20th (Monday), 2011 with no exception
2. Please includes the major components of a research proposal, i.e., abstract, literature review, research questions, design, sample, human right protection, statistical analysis, anticipant progression (including a Gantt chart) etc.
3. Paper must be typed, 1.5-spaced with font size 12.
